MAN/WOMAN OF GOD, WHAT COVENANT ARE YOU OPERATING IN?

One of the greatest challenge that God's people encounter today is the inability to differentiate the old covenant from the new covenant. The inability to understand which covenant governs us today. To fully understand the differences between these two covenants, we must observe and acknowledge that the way Elijah dealt with a situation was very different to the way Jesus dealt with a situation. This is because they were both functioning in two very different time zones, cultures and covenants.

Elijah was one of the greatest and most feared Prophet in the old Testament. He challenged many false prophets, called down fire from heaven prophesied accurately to many leaders 1 Kings 18. Today many people covet the Elijah anointing because it shines the light on a one man agenda. It is powerful and strong, with infinite control, whatever you say God makes it happen. The Elijah anointing portrays a lone ranger agenda, full of pride, all about you, thinking that you are the only one with God's power, wanting people to follow you to the end of the earth just to receive a mantle.

When Jesus came he fulfilled the old covenant and paved the way for a new covenant with the church. He instilled a very different doctrine of love and unity. Sending out his disciples two by two teaching them to bind together in love was very different from the long ranger doctrine Mark 6:7. He placed himself as the head and mediator of all things which is also very different to the old covenant, where prophets spoke directly to God. John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. The new covenant totally controlled by Jesus through the Holy Spirit speaks about power with humility, power led by Christ, lifting people up, imparting the Holy Spirit upon them, baptizing people and releasing them. The covenant, come to save the lost. We see this when Jesus preparing to go to Jerusalem was barred from going through Samaria. The disciple’s suggestion was to call down fire from heaven and destroy them all Luke 9:54. Jesus, realizing the Old Testament thinking, caught and corrected them at once by stating that the we are not called to destroy man’s life but to save it Luke 9:55. Which means we don’t deal with situations in the old way anymore for we operate with a very different covenant. Jesus thought of being selfless, honoring and esteeming others above ourselves. The new covenant totally generated through faith gives us gifts, titles, sets us apart and empowers us to go out to compel and empower others to follow Christ.

Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you into total fulness of the New covenant.
